Hyde Park (Naturalized Area)

Picture
* concept plan subject to change
Hyde Park is a District Park and is a naturalized area which the City of Saskatoon describes as an award winning wetland design. This area is managed and enhanced through input by Ducks Unlimited and the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation. The City of Saskatoon's Naturalized Parks branch of the Parks Department took over management of the area late in 2014 and is responsible for maintaining the park.
It will take years for the area to re-establish and there are plans to add interpretive signs around the park to highlight the wildlife in the area.

Coyote sittings occur throughout the year so please be aware and respect all of the wildlife that live in our naturalized park.
Not familiar with naturalized areas?
  • Pathways are generally not paved to maintain a natural setting.
  • Grass consists of native vegetation and will not be mowed on a regular basis.
  • It takes many years for native vegetation to re-establish in a naturalized area after it has been disturbed during construction.
  • Activities in naturalized areas are low impact to avoid disturbing the native vegetation and wildlife that are using it.

Park Modifications and Construction
  • Pathway construction began in the fall of 2012 and  continued in 2013. Seeding and pathway construction was completed for most areas in 2013.
  • The remainder of the work was completed by the contractor in 2014 and the park was turned over to the City of Saskatoon late in the fall of 2014.
Weir Repairs (2016)
  • You may have noticed in the fall of 2016 that water levels have increased compared to the last few years. This is nothing to be concerned about as water levels are beginning to return to where the should be.
  • The original weir that was installed was malfunctioning so during the summer of 2016 the City replaced the weir which included the installation of a concrete weir for better control of the water levels.
